An Ode To The Summer

Oh summer, oh summer, please return,
for your presence I deeply yearn.
I long to feel your warmth upon my face
and the gentle touch of your embrace.
Winter’s icy grip is unfailingly relentless,
her daggers pierce any level of dress.
When the winter is so long and so cold,
it makes me feel deeply weary and old.
It seems that forever an impenetrable darkness,
will rest heavy upon the dormant starkness.
But when your magic is once more unfurled,
you will bring back colour to the world.
Everyone is happier when you’re around,
real smiles and greetings abound.
I can run, I can dance, upon the dry grass;
it is a pleasure which little can surpass.
Beneath the sun I can dive into a bright blue sea
and let its gentle waves transport me,
to a place where my troubles are far away
and earthly pleasures are here to stay.
Oh summer, oh summer, the apple of my eye,
be merciful and hear my desperate cry,
for I know that when you do arrive,
I will finally once more feel alive.
