Since Reach’s new archive system improved search functionality considerably, I have taken the lead on creating regular nostalgia gallery content.
The stories regularly accrue 25k page views or more, providing a considerable lift on the weekend when we have less breaking news. They are also helpful evergreen content.
For instance, despite having far fewer photographs to work with than would be ideal, this general Bath nightclub nostalgia photo story here has still managed to accrue 34,370 page views so far, with a 1 minute 16s average time on page.
Aside from their page view potential, these stories are also great identity content, maintaining our strong local reputation – and they make our homepage look great.
While the content topics might appear dull to outsiders – among locals they can invoke strong reminisces and stoke debate.
That’s why I’ve chosen to include this photo-based story about how one of Bath’s shopping centres has changed over time.
I was looking at how Bath’s high street had changed generally when I found that there was a huge wealth of material for SouthGate.
SouthGate has had several controversial redevelopments, so locals strongly engaged with the content. The story had 21,190 page views.
