Seeing rumours on social media that a small local nightclub was closing, I tracked down the owners in order to confirm the news and to see if I could get some comment.
I ended up conducting a full interview and as soon as I heard the line - “No-one’s interested in nightclubs anymore” - I knew I had a killer lead.
I wrote an in depth piece which had 24,435 page views.
The story piqued interest, not just with its niche set of customers – but more universally because of its sweeping nostalgic comments.
The post on Bath Live’s Facebook page attracted nearly 400 comments and 135 shares – a very strong performance for our page.
Following up with the owner for an update after the closure with pictures and video footage of its last night accrued another 4,258 page views (story here).
It’s always worth putting in the extra effort, because although a story about a small niche club closing would have done well enough, it’s unlikely to have really taken off without the powerful quotes.
